Transitioning Your Skincare Routine for Fall
Transitioning Your Skincare Routine for Fall
As the leaves start to change and the weather starts to cool, it's time to start thinking about transitioning your skincare routine for fall. This is the time of year when you can really give your skin some TLC and focus on repairing any damage that might have been done during summer. Here are some tips for making the transition from summer to fall skincare.
1. Start Exfoliating Regularly
One of the best things you can do for your skin in fall is to start exfoliating regularly. This will help to get rid of any dead skin cells that have been sitting on the surface all summer long. Exfoliation will also help to improve the overall appearance of your skin by making it look more glowy and radiant. There are a lot of different ways to exfoliate, so find one that works best for you and your skin type. You can use a physical exfoliator like a sugar scrub or a gentle chemical exfoliator like an AHA or BHA serum. Just be sure not to overdo it, as too much exfoliation can actually damage your skin barrier.
2. Incorporate More Moisturizing Products Into Your Routine
Another important tip for transitioning your skincare routine for fall is to incorporate more moisturizing products into your routine. This is because the cooler weather can cause your skin to become drier than usual. Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which are both great ingredients for locking in moisture. You might also want to consider using a thicker moisturizer or even a face oil in place of your normal daytime moisturizer. Just be sure to apply it early enough in the day so that it doesn't end up clogging your pores overnight.
3. Protect Your Skin From The Sun (Even When It's Not Shining)
Just because the sun isn't shining as bright in fall doesn't mean you can skip the sunscreen! In fact, you should be wearing sunscreen every day, no matter what season it is. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can penetrate through clouds, so even on days when it's overcast, you need to be protecting your skin. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and make sure to reapply it every few hours if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time.
4. Don't Forget About Your Lips!
Your lips can get just as dry and chapped in fall as the rest of your skin, so don't forget to take care of them! Make sure you're using a lip balm or lip serum that contains hydrating ingredients like shea butter or cocoa butter. You might also want to consider using a lip scrub once or twice a week to help get rid of any dead skin cells.
5. Consider Adding a Facial Oil Into Your Routine
If you haven't already, now is the perfect time to start using a facial oil in your skincare routine. Facial oils are great for all skin types, but they're especially beneficial for dry and sensitive skin. They can help to lock in moisture and protect your skin from the elements. There are a lot of different facial oils out there, so experiment until you find one that works well for you.
Following these tips will help you to transition your skincare routine from summer to fall and get your skin ready for the cooler weather.
